Baked taco dip with ground beef is one of our favorite easy appetizers. It's super simple to prepare and it's creamy, cheesy and absolutely delicious. If you like ground beef tacos, you're going to love this cheesy dip recipe!
There are 2 ways to make this taco dip with meat. You can make taco meat in your Instant Pot or the stove. You can also use leftover taco meat. We usually always have taco meat left over, and this is a terrific way to use it up!
If you only have a little bit of meat, you can add some black beans or refried beans to the mix. Yum!
Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this easy taco dip recipe. What you don't already have in your pantry can be found in your local grocery store.
- Lean ground beef
- Taco seasoning -- store bought or homemade taco seasoning
- Water -- or beef broth
- Cream cheese
- Shredded cheese -- Mexican blend, cheddar, Colby Jack or Monterey Jack
- Chunky tomato salsa
How to Make Taco Dip with Ground Beef
First, cook the ground beef over the stove in a large skillet. While cooking, add taco seasoning. When the meat is done, spoon it into a prepared casserole dish.
If you're using leftover taco meat, heat it up first. Then, follow the directions for making the dip.
Then, mix cream cheese, shredded cheese and salsa together. No need to dirty another bowl -- just mix it up in the baking dish.
Now, spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish. Smooth it out with the spoon.
Then, sprinkle more shredded cheese over the top. You can use Mexican blend cheese, or you can shred your own.
Try a blend of cheddar, Colby Jack or Monterey Jack if you can. If you only have cheddar, that's fine, too!
Cook Time
Pop the dish into the oven, and bake until it's hot and bubbly. This takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
If you are making taco meat from scratch, the total cooking time will be about 10 minutes longer.
Finally, take the dip out of the oven, and let it cool down a little. That's it! Now, you're ready to dive into this hot and cheesy dip!
What to Serve with the Dip
So, what to serve with taco dip? Because this is a warm taco dip, you need to serve thick tortilla chips for dipping.
We like Fritos but any thick corn chip will do. Add your favorite taco toppings such as diced tomatoes, Spicy Pico de Gallo, Homemade Guacamole , sour cream, chopped cilantro, more salsa and olives.
Variations
Cheesy beef taco dip is very versatile -- customize it as you please!
Spice your dip up with chopped green onions, green chiles, or jalapeño peppers.
Black beans or refried beans are a great addition for some extra protein.
You can use your favorite store bought taco seasoning mix, or a homemade taco seasoning.
Serve dip with your favorite toppings and chips. Black olives, shredded cheddar cheese, and sriracha sauce are each a great option for additional toppings.
Even though this warm dip is one of our favorite taco dip recipes, you can turn this recipe into a cold layered taco dip. It's a super easy cold taco dip that's basically just a 7 layer taco dip but with beef added.
How to Store and Reheat
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it'll last for 2 to 3 days.
For longer storage, freeze taco dip in a freezer safe container.
Reheat individual portions of dip in the microwave. You can reheat larger portions in the oven.
